Something you don't see everyday...

Yesterday afternoon Annie and I headed south a bit to check out a park we'd heard about (more on how great the parks are here later). Afterwards, we took the 405 Highway back to pick up Patrick at work. The exit put us in an area 'across the tracks' from Patrick's office.

We had just gotten off the highway and were sitting in rush hour traffic when a man turned the corner on the sidewalk right next to us running as fast as I've ever seen anyone run. It caught my eye right away - and before I could even wonder why he was running so fast, another man rounded the corner after him - chasing him with a knife in his hand! The first man was a well-dressed Asian guy (tucked in polo shirt, preppy creased shorts, holding a large manilla envelope) and the man chasing him with the knife was a pretty rough looking Hispanic man (whose other arm was out of joint and looked like this was not the first run-in the guy had seen).

I only watched this for a moment before they rounded a corner and were out of sight. I almost wondered if this was all for real but then noticed traffic had slowed and everyone around me was watching too. Luckily the first guy had a pretty good lead on the other so hopefully the knife never met its target.

When I told Patrick about it and asked him what he thought it was all about, he guessed it was likely a drug deal gone bad. I didn't ask him how he knew about things like that.... but he was probably right.

Needless to say, we'll be avoiding that side of town from now on. I know it could (and probably does) happen everywhere, but that's definitely not something I've ever seen along Sudley Road in Manassas!
